How do I write a resume that gets read?
One page (two if 10+ years). Lead with impact, not duties — 'grew X by 40%' beats 'responsible for X'. Match the job description's language for the ATS. Skip photos, personal details, and 'references on request'.

Use it to tighten wording, never to invent achievements. Recruiters spot generic AI phrasing within seconds.
How long do recruiters spend on a resume?
6–8 seconds on first pass. Top third of page one has to hook them.
Do cover letters still matter?
For competitive roles or a career switch, yes. For volume applications through job boards, often skipped.
Should I include GPA?
Only if you graduated within 3 years and it's 3.5+. Otherwise it just dates you.
What's an ATS and how do I beat it?
Applicant Tracking System — software that filters resumes before a human sees them. Use standard section headings, no tables or columns, and the same phrasing the job ad uses.
Should I include a photo?
In the US, UK, Canada and Australia: no. In much of Europe, Asia and Latin America: often expected. When in doubt, leave it off.
What about a skills section?
Helpful for ATS keywords, but don't pad it. List tools you can actually use in an interview, not buzzwords.
